Footloose

SYNOPSIS

Writer/Director Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow," "Black Snake Moan") delivers a new take of the beloved 1984 classic film, "Footloose." Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister’s troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.
 MY REVIEW:
I'm likely going against a lot of people out there, but I absolutely LOVE this movie.  Of course it's not the "original" but it's got all the things that make movies great in my opinion.  I laughed, and laughed and laughed some more, it's a great movie.  I think at one point I may have laughed a little tear out.  There were some parts of the movie I was so into, it was like I was there with the kids in the little town.  My husband and I took our 11 (yep you read that, she's now 11 YEAH!!!!) year old daughter to the movies with 9 of her friends and we watched Footloose.  My daughter loves these movies like Bring It On, Drumline, other dance movies.  You know, the movies that are always the same just with different actresses dancing around.  Well, she saw a preview for this and decided it was going to be her movie party.  This has got to be the most expensive movie I have ever been to, but it was worth it.  I told my husband half way through it that we would be buying this movie when it comes out.  I absolutely LOVE it.  I know I've said that before and I'm not a fan of "remakes" I feel they take the movie and mess it all around usually and I really don't like all the movies that are the exact same nowadays but this one is great.  Some will argue it's not as good as the original, and lets face it not many movies are, but this movie has a great cast for these characters and it's the Footloose for a new generation.  I love it.  I kept asking my husband if he was enjoying it, I figured since I loved it so much he just had to hate it, but he didn't.  He liked it as well.  Not as much as me I bet....OR the little girls.

26 out of 26 thumbs up (6 from my family)

PG 13 for some teen drug and alcohol use, sexual content, violence and language.
~~ I viewed this movie in the Cinema and I WILL be purchasing it on BluRay with my own money~~
