Healthy Eating for Kids Recipe book

As the name describes this is a recipe book geared to helping parents make great, healthy choices for their children to eat.  I was so excited to be given the opportunity to review this book.  As most of you know I have four children, two of them are at the "picky eating" stage.  My three year old son is terrible for eating anything other than cereal.  He would be perfectly content eating cereal for breakfast, lunch, dinner and his three snacks of the day.  He always wants cereal, which is great and healthy in it's own way.  I love eating healthy foods.  My children aren't allowed to have cola's like Pepsi or Coke and they call granola bars "chocolate bars", in my home mini rice cakes and crackers are called "chippies" and that is just the way I like it.  So, it really bothered me that my son wouldn't eat anything but corn flakes or rice crispies or other cereals and I decided this recipe book would be a great way to get out of this funk and it was.  There are so many great recipes and not just for dinners, there are snacks, drinks, lunch to go (school), lunch at home, dinner.  It's a wonderful book and of all the recipes my favorite is the Happy Face Snack.
The Happy Face Snack ~~Recipe~~
"Welcome your children home from school or cheer them up on a rainy day with this fun and great looking snack.  It's sure to bring a smile to their faces and a wide range of important vitamins and minerals to their bodies!
Ingredients
  • 1 banana, split in half length-wise
  • 1 small cluster of red grapes
  • 1 strawberry
  • 1 star fruit
  • 2 slices of cantaloupe
  • 1 kiwi
Directions:
Start with a large round plate, preferably in a bright color.  Use the fruit to create a happy face.
  1. Use the grape cluster for hair
  2. Two pieces of kiwi to form the eyes
  3. The strawberry makes the nose
  4. Make cheeks with the two slices of star fruit
  5. Use the two slices of cantaloupe for ears
  6. Finish with the banana half for a great, big smile.
Encourage your children to make their own art with the remaining fruit, before devouring it as well!"

I think my favorite part of this recipe is that I can let my children create their own faces.  They suggest giving them the left over pieces, which is awesome too, but I found it so much more fun to grab the fruit together and get it all ready and then let them decorate their own plates with their own faces.  It's so much fun for them and it's great for me to know they are enjoying eating healthy snacks.  Sure my mom always told me not to play with my food, but sometimes you just have to sit back and watch the smiles on your children's faces as they are enjoying eating healthy fun snacks.

They have so many great recipes that are fun and creative.  You can make them yourself or you can allow your children to help, I prefer the latter, I love when my children help me out with things, especially things that are for them in the end.  One thing that I absolutely enjoy about this recipe book is that they always mention at the beginning of the recipe what is in it "vitamins" "minerals" "vitamin c" etc.  I really like that, because not only do you know that it's good for them but you get a feel of why.  Why is one recipe a good choice over another?  Maybe your child(ren) need more vitamin c in their diets, or maybe (like me) one recipe is just more fun for your children to help with.   I would recommend this book for any parent who has a picky eater, and any parent who just wants to give their children a FUN and HEALTHY snack or drink, or meal.  I use it all the time and I don't have a doubt in my mind that other parents would find it handy as well.  You may not have a lot of time for making healthy snacks so you just grab some "junk food" and say that's fine, it's only a snack.  But these recipes don't take much time at all.  Why not make the "Trail Mix and Match" and keep it in a container to be pulled out when you're in a rush.  As a mother of four who is constantly doing different things at different places, I know what it's like to feel rushed.  At least now I know that I can rest assured that I am providing Healthy Eating for Kids in my home.

You can get this recipe book as either an eBook, and also available for the Amazon Kindle.

I give this 9 out of 10 thumbs up.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
